Brave Beautiful Soul
 
This flute is in honour a remarkable fox that came into my life recently and the teachings he brought with him. One day, he appeared on the land here and came right up to us. He was old, unwell, and instead of disappearing into the wild as foxes so often do, he chose to stay. Lying quietly in the grass, his message was unmistakable. "I need help.” What incredible courage that took. So often many of us find it hard to ask others for help, especially complete strangers and yet this may be exactly what we need. It can be so frightening and yet when we do step into this vulnerability it is a very rare thing that help isn’t there to meet us. It can also be a vulnerable place to chose to help another in need and sometimes this path can be very difficult but so worth it in the end. This fox was incredibly vulnerable and to ask humans for help when he needed it most was so brave. As we waited for the wildlife rescue team to arrive, I played my flute for him. He remained peacefully with us throughout, as though he knew he was safe.  After receiving medical care, he was brought back to the land that had been his home. We were told he was very old and had only a short time left to live. He lived for another week and I was so happy to know that he spent his last days here on the land he knew as home before beginning his journey to the Otherworld. What a blessing to have this fox come into my life. I feel him in my heart so often as I walk on the land here and the next time I need help I will be sure to ask for it. Thank you Fox for your bravery and wisdom. In honour of all you shared I name this flute,

He is in the key of A tuned to 432Hz. The Fox totem is handcrafted from Eastern Aromatic Red Cedar, lovingly foraged by my dad in Upstate New York. He has eyes of Turquoise to help guide the way with clarity on his ongoing journey. It is bound to the flute using lace from North American White-tailed Deer. The feathers are of Tawny Owl and Magpie from the land here. Both of these beings will be very familiar to this Fox friend and will help to carry and guide the songs of this flute to where the need to fly.
